Burnsville church investigating sex abuse claims against pastor
I just started going to my church’s youth group a year ago and am basically the oldest kid there. A couple of months ago, I started to really like my youth pastor. I don’t think that is that surprising, because he’s an older guy and probably the most godly man I know.
My husband is also our church Youth Pastor. Have you ever set out to do something and along the way learned or discovered something that you didn?t expect.
I wanted to write you this letter to address a really important question. Dating, relationships, and church are a strange combination and it can be uncomfortable to ask about. Here are a few things I want you to know. Romantic feelings are a good thing. You might feel a certain way today, and another way tomorrow. Being single is totally fine. I remember feeling like there must be something wrong with me.
Apologetics Jesus. Christianity Love. Daily Living Marriage. End Times Paganism.
He interned at my church for a year, and now is the full time youth pastor. Everybody needs a little accountability every now and then. Who cares what they think?!? In the initial conversations with someone, I have had a few people who are very anti-religious and therefore very skeptical of my intentions.
As a spiritual leader, there are so many cultural expectations on me and how I should interact with others. One negative? Up until the last couple of years, I was looking for a committed Christian man, but in Christian circles, my status as a clergy person was always evident, and I think that is intimidating for many men. For one, the profession is still viewed as masculine, and that can be a turnoff. It hurts sometimes to know that my vocation contributes to my loneliness.
Michael , a pastor in his late 50s who is currently working as a clergy person at a church in San Antonio: I consider myself polyamorous and use that term because, for me, it is about love, not simply multiple sexual partners. I am dating three women that I am deeply in love with and see regularly. The quality of love I have for each varies, just as it does for friends or family I love.
As the depth of connection grows with one, it deepens with all.

Allegations that a Burnsville pastor had inappropriate sexual relationships with two year-old women 17 years ago in Indiana have shaken the congregation at his south metro megachurch, resulting in a leave of absence for him and his removal from consideration for hire by a church in Tennessee. A neutral party has been enlisted to investigate, the statement said. The Rev. Wes Feltner, now 41, is being accused of simultaneously dating the congregants in when he was a youth pastor in southern Indiana.
The accusations have been deemed credible by Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky, where Feltner taught and has been suspended, and came to light after he applied for a position this fall at a church in Clarksville, Tenn. In an e-mail to the Star Tribune, Feltner said he had permission from their parents to date both women but that he deeply regretted the hurt he caused.

A great friendship gone south?
Youth pastors are profoundly uncool. Father David Peters, the Episcopalian priest who keeps going viral on TikTok, has managed to connect with internet culture in spite of that fact. It isn’t religion itself that’s the issue — although being known as that church kid can dock a few popularity points in secular teenage social circles — but that youth pastors try so hard to relate to the kids they’re teaching, the actual spiritual guidance gets lost among the outdated references.
The reaches that youth pastors make in an effort to connect to their students are a running joke; if something is trending, you’re sure to see a youth pastor trying to circle it back to the gospel. Teenagers are elusive enough, and connecting to them is like living through the ironically outdated “How do you do, fellow kids” meme over and over again. Convincing them that something is worth their attention is a challenge already, but convincing a teenager of Christianity’s appeal is a Herculean undertaking in which very, very, very few succeed.
As someone who spent their teenage years watching biblical skits at church camp and manning the projector for the religious youth group band, I’ve sat through many a sermon littered with Advice Animals -style block text. I can say with absolute certainty that most middle-aged clergy don’t really get how memes work. But Peters, a vicar in Pflugerville, Texas, managed to crack the code with his goofy, on-trend TikToks.
That’s my type! Over a FaceTime call, he explained that a fundamentalist upbringing and an eagerness to be seen as mature held him back from being embracing the pop culture-laden stereotype during his stint as a youth pastor. Peters said he doesn’t like “a lot of the gimmicks of youth ministry” like pushing abstinence, ostracizing LGBTQ youth, and making strained references to trends that may or may not be relevant.
Although he isn’t a youth pastor anymore and ministers a congregation of all ages, his wholesome TikToks have garnered a consistently positive reception from TikTok users rarely found online.

As annoying as this is they have to do it. Too many young men have gotten involved with students, both of-age and under-age. One day when I hire a young man or woman to lead the youth I will have to re-itereate that relationships with the students are now allowed. However, it never fails that a handful of young impressionable girls are going to fall in love with the older and wise youth pastors; especially if he plays guitar.
If the youth pastor is a female it tends to happens less but I know that if I were a teenager and we had a cute youth pastor….. I may have had a crush on her. I have to admit, if I had a daughter who was of age and a senior in HS and she had a crush on the youth pastor…. I might also fancy the idea. After all, there are a lot of alternatives, like millions of immature 18 or 19 years old guys who want to hook up with her or just partake in general debauchery.
Never ever ever have a relationship with any student ever…… EVER.

Embracing transparency as the wife of a pastor has been one of the greatest challenges of my life. Those needs are not always met within in the context of ministry life.
Can anyone offer a word of defense for a young SBC Pastor who has starting dating a member of the youth group. Her parents are leaders in.
Words and phrases like “smothered” and “jealous” come to mind. If one of you can’t move without the other one christian it, then christian is a big problem. If this happens, both of you need some space, and maybe you even need to back away from the relationship. These traits are red flags. Do we regularly have good conversations? Chat room-type chatter is fine.
But now and then you need to have a conversation that questions a bit deeper—that should you know each other’s likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, hopes and dreams.
